Published 05 Dec 2011
Background
$500,000 of the Planning and Budget Committee’s Teaching and Learning allocation to the Provost is available to faculties to encourage initiatives in 2012 to improve learning and teaching performance.
Applications are now called for amounts of up to $30,000 for allocation of $250,000 at this stage (stage 1). Applications must be received by 5pm, Monday 30th January, 2012.
A second (stage 2) allocation will be made in August with a closing date of Monday, 13th August, 2012.
Priorities for funding in 2012
Priority in 2012 will be given to initiatives that enhance learning and teaching through:
- innovative and effective use of technology;
- the internationalisation of our academic programs;
- curriculum initiatives designed to achieve University Plan targets for positive graduate outcomes;
- appropriate specification and assurance of course-level learning outcomes.
Other proposals may also be considered, but applicants may wish to seek advice from CSHE or Office of the Provost prior to submission.
Funding period
Although funding is normally deemed to be for one year, successful applicants will have the option to carry forward remaining funds into the following year.
Application and Selection Procedure
In making its decision, the selection committee (comprising the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Participation and Engagement), the Director, eLearning and the President of the Academic Board, or nominee) will consider:
- the clarity of the project objectives and their alignment with the University’s strategic objectives for Learning and Teaching;
- the intended project outcomes;
- how the proposed project addresses one or more priority areas for funding;
- the extent to which project outcomes can be successfully evaluated; and
- intentions for dissemination of project findings and opportunities for institution-wide adoption of the project method and/or outcomes.
More information about the University’s strategic objectives for Learning and Teaching are set out in:
- The University Plan 2011-2014
- Learning Outcomes for Masters (Coursework) and Masters (Extended) Programs Staff username and password required, approved by Academic Board on 15th September, 2011;
- The Report of the Internationalising Education Working Group Staff username and password required, September 2011.
Applications must address all of the above criteria, include a detailed budget and timeline, be no more than three A4 pages in length and come with the support of the relevant Deans of Faculties/Graduate Schools. Four copies of each application are required. Projects involving collaboration across Faculties and Graduate Schools are strongly encouraged.
Funds will be awarded on merit using the criteria set out above, but funds will generally not be awarded to those who are yet to complete projects funded under earlier rounds.
